What gives Kiotari its character is space and quiet. This is not a resort town in the Faliraki sense — there's no bustling centre, no strip of bars, just a scattering of tavernas and a handful of large resorts set along a long, open beach with the hills of the south rising behind. The resorts are big enough to be self-contained worlds of pools, restaurants, spas and beach clubs, which is exactly why people book Kiotari: to settle in, slow down and let the week look after itself.

That calm doesn't mean you're cut off. The whole magnificent south of Rhodes opens up from here — the clifftop village of Lindos and its acropolis are a short drive north, the beaches of Pefkos and Gennadi are minutes away, and the wild, windswept southern tip at Prasonisi is within reach for a day out. Kiotari beach & seafront

Kiotari's beach is its greatest asset: a long, open stretch of sand and fine shingle running for well over a mile along the south-east coast, backed by the resorts and the hills rather than a wall of shops and bars. It shelves gently into clear, clean water that flies the Blue Flag in places, and because the coast here is broad and uncrowded, you can nearly always find a quiet patch of your own even in high summer. Each resort manages its own section with sunbeds, parasols and beach-bar service, and water sports operate along the shore in season.

Because it faces roughly east, Kiotari catches gentle morning light on the water and is sheltered from the stronger afternoon winds that ruffle the west coast, so swimming stays comfortable through most of the day. When you fancy a change of scene, the neighbouring beaches at Pefkos and Gennadi are a short hop, and the near-circular natural pool of St Paul's Bay below Lindos — one of the prettiest swims on the island — is an easy drive up the coast. Things to do around Kiotari

The star attraction is Lindos, a short drive north. Climb to the acropolis perched above the white, sugar-cube village for one of the great views in the Aegean, wander the car-free lanes, and cool off with a swim in St Paul's Bay below. It's the essential Rhodes day out, and Kiotari is the perfect quiet base to return to each evening once the day-trippers have gone. For wilder scenery, drive south to Prasonisi at the island's tip, a wind-and-kitesurf mecca where two seas meet across a sandbar, or explore the ruined castle at Asklipio and its Byzantine church. Getting there

You fly into Rhodes Airport (RHO / Diagoras) on the north-west coast, and the scenic transfer down the coast to Kiotari takes around 45 minutes by road. Plenty of UK airports run direct summer services to Rhodes, and every GoToBeach package includes your flights and your airport-to-hotel transfer at both ends.

Passports & entry

Greece is in the EU and the Schengen area, so British passport holders can visit for up to 90 days in any 180 without a visa. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the day you enter and be valid for at least three months after your planned departure. The EU's new EES and ETIAS systems are being phased in, so entry rules can change at short notice — always recheck the official guidance before you travel.

Money

The currency is the euro. Cards are widely accepted in the resorts and larger tavernas, but carry some cash for beach bars, village shops and taxis, which are thinner on the ground here than in the big resorts. Tipping isn't obligatory but is appreciated — rounding up the bill or leaving a euro or two for good service is the local norm.

Health & insurance

A free UK GHIC covers state medical care in Greece on the same terms as locals, but it's not a substitute for travel insurance — you'll still want comprehensive cover for repatriation, private treatment and cancellations. Getting around

The resorts are self-contained, so you can happily spend the week without transport. KTEL buses run along the coast to Lindos, the south and up to Rhodes Town, and taxis are available but best pre-booked. Because Kiotari is quiet and spread out, a hire car for a day or two is well worth it if you want to reach Lindos, the southern beaches and Prasonisi under your own steam.

Food & eating out

At the resorts you'll eat well from generous all-inclusive buffets plus à la carte tavernas. Out and about, the handful of local tavernas in Kiotari and along to Gennadi and Lindos serve fresh fish, slow-cooked lamb and the local pitaroudia chickpea fritters. As a rule, follow the crowd of Greek families rather than the menu with photos and you'll eat very well.
